Last week, we experienced near record breaking high temperatures. Temperatures soared up to 102 degrees on Friday in Mansfield, MA. Who didn't have their air conditioners blasting?
Sometimes air conditioners are a must, especially in the heat of summer. Learn what can you do to make sure your air condtioner unit is efficient when you need to cool down. You can save money and energy by following these simple maintenance tips.
Keep It Clear
Clear the outside air conditioner units of brush and vegetation so they can breathe, but keep enough vegetation around them to keep them in the shade.
Shaded A/C compressors use as much as 10% less energy electricity than the same unit operating in the sun. Keep some of the "shade advantage" by planting leafy trees or shrubs that shade air conditioning units but do not block the flow of air.
Keep It Clean
In the fall and spring, turn off the power to the air conditioning unit. For added safety, shut off the switch at the circuit breaker. Rinse with a gentle stream of water from a hose. Additionally, clean or replace filters, clean the A/C condenser, and check the coolant lines according to manufacturers instructions.
Keeping the unit clean and clear gets the A/C unit ready for the next cooling season and makes it run more efficiently...conserving energy and saving you money.
